What can Tumblr do for SEO?
A new kind of blog - a tumblelog - is becoming more popular with the new Tumblr service. Tumblelogs are quick, simple ways of sharing information with everyone. As you “tumble” around on the internet you can easily post your findings. This could be used to share information with friends or colleagues or as an ongoing “bookmarks” list of links for personal use. But what could this do for SEO?
Tumblr allows people to post links quickly and easily. When you sign up for an account they give you a button to put in your browser toolbar. Posting to your tumblelog is as easy as pushing the button. Tumblr fills in the information about the page for you and posts it to your tumblelog. This is great for SEO (and SEM). The easier it is for someone to link to you the better chance you have that they will. People love to share interesting information and this is just another way to let them do that. If this type of blogging catches on it could make link generation through linkbait even more successful. It also helps with marketing because your story/video/picture etc. gets spread around more.
Of course regular blogging has this same effect. But many people avoid starting blogs because of a lack of content, lack of time, and other reasons. Tumblr may be appealing to people who just want a quick way of sharing information. The more people blogging the better for SEOs.
